The Washington Park Arboretum is rich in history and in plant life. Emphasizing flora hardy to the Pacific Northwest
it houses over 10,000 plants from around the world. It has over 230 acres of woods, wetlands, and meadows to explore
and view in their natural beauty. If you want to discover what a stand of snowberries, or wetland grasses look like
when they are not managed in a small yard, this is the place to go. This is a place to enjoy what proper planning and
spacing of trees and shrubs can yield after years of growth. It is a place where urban development has had less of an
impact on the health of the species planted there. Although, small in comparison to Central Park in New York, this space
reflects the Northwest with the power of its very honest straight forward design. A style of design that conjures
up images of the more virgin forest from whence it was born.
